Driving Lessons in Harrow & North-West London
JD School of Motoring is a driving school based in Harrow, teaching manual and automatic driving lessons right across North-West London. We have taken more than 500 learners through to their practical test and hold a 99.5% pass rate across both gearboxes.
We teach in Harrow, Harrow-on-the-Hill, Wealdstone, Kenton, Edgware, Pinner, Northwood, Ruislip, Wembley, Stanmore, Northolt, Watford, Borehamwood, Hendon and Mill Hill. Every lesson includes free pickup and drop-off from your home, school, college or nearest station, so none of your paid hour is spent getting to the car.
Lessons run seven days a week from 8am to 9pm, including evenings and weekends. Whether you are booking your very first driving lesson, coming back to driving after years off the road, or you already have a test date and need intensive practice, there is a lesson structure that fits.
Driving Lesson Prices in Harrow
A single driving lesson is £40 per hour. Booking a block brings the hourly rate down: 5 hours for £195, 10 hours for £380, and 20 hours for £740. There is no joining fee and no charge for pickup.
Manual and automatic driving lessons cost exactly the same, so you can pick the gearbox that suits you rather than the one that is cheaper. Hire of our dual-controlled car for your practical test is £190 and includes a warm-up lesson beforehand.
The DVSA puts the average learner at around 45 hours of professional instruction plus private practice. Most beginners in Harrow start with the 10 or 20-hour package and top up from there — your instructor will give you an honest estimate after the first few lessons rather than selling you hours you do not need.
Automatic and Manual Driving Lessons
Automatic driving lessons in Harrow suit learners who want to concentrate on road position, observation and junctions without also managing a clutch. They typically get people to test standard in fewer hours, and they take a lot of the stress out of stop-start traffic on Station Road, Northolt Road and the A409.
Manual driving lessons give you a licence that covers both manual and automatic cars, which keeps every future job and every hire car open to you. Harrow is good ground to learn on: the hills around Harrow-on-the-Hill and Harrow Weald mean you will have hill starts and clutch control genuinely mastered rather than merely passed.
You are not locked in. If you start manual and decide automatic suits you better, we switch you over and the hours you have already bought carry across.
Beginner Driving Lessons — Starting from Zero
If you have never sat in the driving seat, your first lesson starts somewhere quiet. Cockpit drill, the controls, moving off and stopping — that is the whole of lesson one, and nobody is put onto a main road before they are ready for it.
You need a provisional licence to start and nothing else. We supply the car, it is dual-controlled, and the instructor can stop it at any moment, which is exactly why beginners are safe on real roads far sooner than they expect.
Nervous learners and older beginners are a normal part of what we do, not a special case. So are refresher lessons for people who passed years ago and have not driven since.
Our Driving Instructors in Harrow
Every instructor at JD School of Motoring is DVSA-approved and holds a green badge — fully qualified, not a trainee on a pink badge. We have more than 20 instructors across North-West London teaching manual and automatic.
Because they teach these roads every week, they know which junctions catch learners out and which routes the examiners at Mill Hill, Northolt and Borehamwood actually use. That is the difference between practising driving and practising your test.
If you would prefer a female driving instructor, or one who is used to anxious learners, say so when you book. Both are ordinary requests and neither costs extra.
Driving Test Car Hire
If you have been practising in a friend or family car and need a vehicle for the practical test, you can hire ours for £190. That covers a warm-up lesson immediately before the test, use of the dual-controlled car for the test itself, and the drive to and from the test centre.
The car is insured, DVSA-compliant and the one you will already have driven in your warm-up — so the test is not the first time you meet it.
